Awards do not make Irrfan Khan happy

He is India's best known Khan abroad. Less exuberant than our other Bollywood export, Anil Kapoor, the lucky man who's worked with gorgeous women Angelina Jolie and Tabu, speaks on life in soft focus. Here's Irrfan Khan, 48, on everything but his role in Spiderman 4 and Life of Pi.

Q: How does it feel to be awarded Padma Shri?

A: I never knew an award would make me so happy. My mother used to feel I wasn't in a respectable profession. Now I feel that what I am doing matters to people.

Q: You're not seen often in romantic films. What made you do Yeh Saali Zindagi?

A: I was dying to do a romantic role since Maqbool. I play a man who has fallen in love helplessly. The way he loves a girl is very fascinating.

Q: How was it working with Chitrangada Singh?

A: Excellent. She is a terrific looker, a talented actor and an intelligent woman. It was good to share screen space with her.

Q: And Priyanka Chopra in Vishal Bhardwaj's 7 Khoon Maaf?

A: I was waiting to work again with Vishal and got a chance to work with one of the finest actresses.

Q: Which of your international projects has the most challenging role?

A: My role in the US TV series In Treatment. The kind of mental state I had to be in and the way it was shot made it a challenge-two people sitting on a couch and making it engaging for the audience.

First look of Akshay Kumar in 'Thank You'

Husbands will be sorry… Wives say thank you - this is what the poster of the film Thank You says. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the film is an out-and-out comedy starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Irrfan Khan, Celina Jaitley, Sunil Shetty and Rimi Sen. Sonam is paired opposite Akki for the first time. She plays a tennis player while Akki is a playboy who falls in love with her. The film is shot in exotic locales of Canada: Vancouver and Niagra Falls.

Sonam has posted many photographs from the sets of Thank You on her Twitter account. She looks awesome with Akshay and that is also the USP of the film. The bombshell Mallika Sherawat has been roped in to do an item song in the film.

People hope Anees-Akshay pair to do some dhamaal with Thank You at box office, repeating the success story of films like Welcome and Singh Is Kinng.

Irrfan khan to play Van Atter in Spider-Man 4

Already Slumdog Millionaire has launched the Hollywood careers of Freida Pinto and Anil Kapoor. Now veteran actor Irrfan Khan is set to join that list, as it's being reported that he will play a villain in Spider-Man Reboot, set to release in 2012. The Hollywood Reporter said that Khan will be playing a character named Van Atter, who may have "Khan, best known for his work in Slumdog Millionaire, is playing a villain named Nels Van Atter, who transforms into the 'proto-goblin', a monstrous baddie with super speed, super agility and super strength.

Khan will be joined by Welsh actor Rhys Ifans, who will also play a villain in the movie. Spider-Man Reboot, the fourth instalment in the series, is being directed by Marc Webb, and will feature 3D technology.

Unlike the first three movies, Spider-Man Reboot is in fact an instalment of Spiderman 3 and will not have Tobey Maguire in the lead role. That honour falls to British-American actor Andrew Garfield, who will give his fist effort as Peter Parker. Spider-Man Reboot is expected to release in 2012.
